The method

Three rules. That’s the gym.

The workout
01

Bodyweight only

No machines. No plates. No theater. Coss built this in a 9×6 cell because that’s what he had: a floor, a body, and time. Nonstop calisthenics. Partner work. You will drip.

02

The size of a cell

Your patch of rubber is about the size of the room this came from. Nowhere to hide. Nowhere to perform. Just work, in a black box on Orchard Street.

Instructors who’ve done time

Everyone on the mic has been incarcerated. They’ve trained people inside. They’ve come home. They know what it is to be judged — so they don’t.

Not that kind of boutique

Forget the fancy gym.

We can’t spell eucalyptus, so the towels smell regular. The mirrors aren’t alive. The bikes don’t have TVs. It’s you, a 9×6 patch of floor, and an instructor who has been judged for real.

If you wanted a talking mirror and a scented towel, you already know where to go. This room is for people who came to move.

The story

First class

What to expect. Nothing cute.

01

Show up 10 min early

Second floor, 102 Orchard. Tell the desk you’re new. That’s the whole check-in philosophy.

02

Barefoot is fine

Most of the room trains without shoes. Wear what lets you move. Leave the outfit for a gym that cares about the outfit.

03

Tell them you’re new

The instructor will scale it. You will drip. You will not be judged. Come ready to move and push yourself.

As seen in

Men's Health Good Morning America Vice

People come for the workout and stay because the room is full of people who have actually done time — instructors included. We don’t do fake testimonials. The press can speak. The floor does the rest.

The mission

Change your body. Change the world.

CONBODY hires formerly incarcerated instructors — over 100 so far — and runs at 0% recidivism. Fitness as reentry. Destigmatize returning citizens, especially Black and brown returning citizens. Do the time together. If the class isn’t your thing, the mission still is.
